Fashionista Awards Showcase the Latest in Fashion
The fashion industry is known to be harsh, cruel, and unforgiving. What many people don’t realize, however, is that the fashion industry also has its fair share of good news stories, as well as high-profile charity events that can make even the most hopeless pessimist feel at least a little bit better about the industry’s future. One such event that demonstrates all of these elements is the Fashionista Awards Showcase, which takes place in different major cities around the world on an annual basis to celebrate style, artistry, and fashion philanthropy.
What are they all about?
The premier event for fashion enthusiasts, designers, bloggers and aficionados is taking place on November 3rd and November 4th at Pier 27 in San Francisco. The event will showcase some of the finest local talent from San Prix’s most innovative Designers to cutting-edge contemporary wear. In addition to live catwalk events, panel discussions and expert speakers you can meet up with your friends for gourmet cuisine tastings, or enjoy a pre-show party! Tickets start at $50 and they’ll be giving away prizes so don’t miss out!
When are they held?
Launched in 2004, this awards show celebrates both aspiring and established designers from around the world. It’s a celebration of excellence that pays tribute to those hardworking individuals that help shape our view of style. Located at Pier 60 in New York City, hundreds of friends, family, celebrities and trendsetters from all over make it out for an evening of fashionable entertainment. With three fashion-focused events under one roof including an outdoor fashion show highlighting trends for spring/summer 2017, an expansive indoor show as well as festivities for honorees and honored guests; it’s no surprise that this is NYC’s most sought after invitation to date.
Where are they held?
The FWSA is a yearly event that recognizes and celebrates fashion designers who are entering their senior year of high school. The FWSA was created to help promote high school students who work hard to build strong portfolios during their time there, while also providing them with information on how to continue and succeed with their passion post-high school.
The FWSA will take place on Saturday, November 11th from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at MAGGIE (646 Grand St). All interested attendees should enter through doors D-E and proceed upstairs where registration will be located. Participants should not bring more than one bag for this evening’s event.
Who organizes them?
The award show began with a fashion show featuring all of the latest trends and styles. The models strutted down the runway, setting all eyes on them as they showcased everything from trendy sneakers to sleek evening dresses. Though traditionally held in New York City, this year’s event took place at The Beverly Hilton Hotel. Past recipients have included big names like Beyoncé, Lupita Nyong’o, and Queen Latifah. This year marked the eighth time that such an event was held, with previous years’ co-hosts including Jessica Alba and Mindy Kaling among others.
How many categories do they have?
The awards showcase separates the clothes into over 20 categories, each showcasing different aspects of fashion. Collections are judged on tailoring, overall style, design and color selection. Accessories are given their own category and feature areas like handbags, footwear and jewelry. The dressy sportswear category includes categories for performance wear, travel-friendly items and activewear. There is even a category for special occasion wear for occasions such as weddings or black tie affairs. Designers compete in these categories by sending their latest creations to the show. The organizers then decide which collections will be shown to an audience who votes for their favorites by voting online or at booths during the event. Winners are then announced before an audience of industry professionals, who are looking for fresh talent to represent them at future shows around the world!
The awards ceremony and what to expect
The fashion is always amazing. Beyond that, it’s a chance to see your favorite influencers and celebrities up close and personal. Though most of these types of events are cringe-worthy for some people, the fashionable ones will find this to be an unforgettable experience. There are several ways you can get tickets, but like any other event there is a limited number so make sure you apply as soon as possible. For those who won’t be able to attend, don’t worry: there will also be social media coverage throughout the night. Get ready to sit back and admire everyone’s style!
The best dressed celebrities at the event
Priyanka Chopra, who looked red-carpet ready from head to toe, stepped out of her look as Padma Lakshmi in her printed Sixties dress. Sienna Miller and Lady Gaga both wore two gowns for their first and second looks – with Gaga pulling a shirtless wonder surprise for her second outfit change. Dua Lipa and Bella Hadid both performed on stage – lip syncing to Perfect Places by Lorde and I Don’t Want to Live Forever by Zayn and Taylor Swift respectively.
