Is Trending Fashion Making a Comeback to the Runway?

Trending fashion can often seem like it’s always moving forward and never going back, but the truth is, some of the latest trends are actually inspired by decades-old styles that are making a comeback in fashion circles. Take floral prints, for example. It’s been common to see them cropping up everywhere from runway shows to high street stores recently, but they’re nothing new – they’ve been around since the ’60s.
What is Retro Clothing
Retro clothing is taking popular fashion brands by storm. However, this trend may not be as fresh as it sounds because there are actually two types of retro clothing: Contemporary and Vintage. It’s important to know the difference between these styles so you can feel like your wearing something truly unique that isn’t so easily accessible.
Vintage styles represent the era in which they were originally worn. That means that anything from after 1999 is NOT vintage, and anything before 1959 (or so) is vintage. The contemporary styles were created for modern day society, but the vintage trends are designed for the individuals who enjoy dressing up like their grandparents or parents. Nowadays, people want to go back to old school style with crop tops and polka dots. You might even see ladies donning poodle skirts paired with peace signs on them! Although some of these looks are far too hipster for me, I’m curious what they’ll think of next!
The History of Trending Fashion
Over a hundred years ago, bloomers were created for women who wanted to partake in traditional male sports. The main idea behind this trend was designed as an answer for women who didn’t want to wear dresses or skirts while they played sports. After that came the Charleston dress, which is popularized by 1920s actress Myrna Loy. This type of gown was slim-fitting, made with soft and light fabrics that flowed outwards from the bust line down. It went all the way to the floor without touching it and had a large slit on one side. Toward the end of the decade, designers began designing two different versions of these dresses: One for going out at night and another for daytime use. In 1934, Valentina Schlee (a Russian born designer) created a less restricting version of this style called the monkey. Around 1937, Hollywood started influencing fashion when Greta Garbo wore her now iconic white long-sleeved polo shirt with matching skirt suit in Camille.
How Retro Dresses can be Affordable
If you want to be on trend, but can’t afford designer clothing, search for affordable and classic looks that are vintage or retro inspired. When you are shopping for these pieces, be sure to check the original price and examine quality before buying. Be especially mindful of sizing: dresses from Old Navy tend to run on the smaller side while dresses from Dorothy Perkins and Forever 21 may not offer much room in terms of length. You’ll also need to know how high-waisted your dress should be depending on your preference (some people like them at their natural waistline, others at their hips). Keep in mind, as with all fashion decisions, this is up to personal taste. In other words, whether it’s a good idea to wear old fashioned clothes will depend largely on what style you’re going for. For example, if you’re looking for an outfit to wear to prom or formal event, it’s best to avoid anything too retro so as not to look dated. On the other hand, if what you’re going with is an authentic and unapologetic boho vibe then maybe throw on some polka dots and ruffles!
Advantages and Disadvantages of Retro Fashion Trends
Retro fashion is making its return, and retailers have started taking note of this. A lot of this has been brought on by celebrities who have begun a new trend. So what’s all the hype about? What are some pros and cons that come with this old fashioned trend making a comeback into fashion now?
Retro fashion is usually not as expensive or complicated as current trends, which means it will be easier to find. There will always be somebody who can help you find what you need. There are so many new styles for retro clothes popping up everywhere, it won’t be difficult at all! But just because it’s easy doesn’t mean everything is perfect about it. Retro clothes generally don’t stand up against long wear like today’s materials do. The fabrics are softer than what we’re used to, meaning it will easily snag or rip. The colors also fade quickly and there’s no guarantee your favorite shirt color will still be available when you go shopping. The fabrics also shrink in length, so if your size changes then there goes your favorite shirt that was too big before. And finally, the most frustrating part: if you wear something from this time period in public they might get offended! It seems like these disadvantages outweigh the advantages when it comes to retro fashion.
Ways To Wear an Old-Fashioned Dress in 2018
Dresses are having a major moment on today’s fashion scene. From lace minis to off-the-shoulder ruffles, they’re all around us. But sometimes we may find ourselves with some unwanted items in our closets that are just gathering dust. Why not put those old-fashioned dresses to good use and actually show them off this year by styling them up with some accessories? Just because they’re out of style doesn’t mean you can’t make them trendy! Here are some ideas on how you can take your old fashioned dresses and give them a new life in 2018 1) Let it hang loose – If you have an old dress that is so long it reaches the ground and has a tight waistline, why not try letting it hang loose for an even more dramatic look? Dress it up with some high heels and a statement necklace for an ultra-glamorous feel.
2) Try layering – Layering different styles or fabrics together is one way to bring interest back into your ensemble without looking too out there. You could try layering a flowy skirt over leggings or jeans for an edgy vibe or layer a plain bodice over chiffon for something sweet and feminine. You’ll be surprised at what happens when you mix two seemingly opposite pieces together!
