Fashion Flares Up at the Designer Awards

Last night was an exciting one for all the fashionistas out there! The Designer Awards were being held at the prestigious New York City Opera House, and it was clear that some of the world’s most influential people in the fashion industry had turned out to see who would take home some of the many prizes on offer. Chatter about last year’s winner, Alexander Krasavchenko, was everywhere, along with speculation about what kind of dress Emma Watson would wear to present this year’s award for Excellence in Fashion Design.

The importance of being part of the industry
It is crucial for fashion designers to stay up-to-date with happenings in the industry. Thankfully, we have these wonderful things called Designer Awards that help us out! This year Fashion Flares has been receiving a number of recognitions, so we couldn’t be more happy and grateful. Stay tuned to find out more about these great awards and what they mean for you. I’ve got a bad feeling about this: You know when you have that gut feeling something bad is going to happen? That’s how I feel right now. And it’s not because I don’t think our company deserves all the recognition. Rather, it’s because my inbox just lit up with some really disturbing news on some of our key competitors who are not too happy about our wins. What does this mean for me? Am I going to lose my job because someone is angry with me? Is there anything else that could go wrong before next week?

Value your local designer community
Although Fashion Week is still a few months away, we’re already anticipating the 2015 Nominees for our Designers of the Year. One thing we love about being in Denver is our thriving local designer community. It’s great to be a part of a city that recognizes and supports its creative talents. In honor of that, we thought it would be fun to highlight some talented local designers who have been nominated for Designer of the Year this year. We’ll start with Annie Bacho because she is one of our favorite designers from last year’s event. She was honored with an Award of Excellence for her commitment to designing locally produced products. And her Spring Collection just launched! Her designs are whimsical and colorful – perfect for an upcoming weekend date night or date-night-in with your significant other!
The next person on our list is Blake Warenski, one of the people behind Style by Mccall Skincare Boutique and Salon located on Colfax Avenue here in Denver. He also has his own line called Blake Warenski jewelry which features handcrafted heirloom pieces designed using only recycled metals.

Don’t focus on only Instagram influencers
Designers from across the globe gathered for Fashion Flares, a night of fashion celebration that put international design on display.
A cross-section of talented up-and-coming designers showcased their work in Dubai for an audience of fashion insiders. These soon-to-be stars were awarded with commendations for creativity and professional achievement, two special categories meant to acknowledge their talent and prepare them for a lifetime career in this competitive industry. Each winner receives $10,000 to be used towards implementing innovative ideas into existing or future collections.
Additionally, new initiatives have been created to make room for more emerging talent and ensure that no deserving designer is ever overlooked.

Have a presence in other social media platforms
Because of social media and its high visibility, maintaining an online profile is crucial to your success. But just because you have an online presence doesn’t mean you are committed to your customers or what you sell. Create and maintain profiles on LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Facebook–anywhere that has a large amount of followers in your industry can be beneficial. Promote a healthy following by uploading original content that will entice people to connect with you or comment on a post–add value to the conversation in other words. For example, if you’re posting a picture of yourself wearing one of your company’s dresses, tell us where it’s from and why you love it. It also pays to share others’ posts as well–be sure to mention who created them when possible.

Backstage access is key
The designer awards never fail to have that fresh, original vibe that can’t be matched by other award shows. After months of debate and late-night sketching, this year’s nominees have been named! Their gowns, ensembles, and accessories will be on display for the public tonight, but backstage photos will provide a sneak peek into the event. See which designers are set to wow with their imaginative creations! + Leonardo DiCaprio is in attendance to present one lucky winner an achievement award. Who do you think will win?

  • Keen fashion enthusiasts are in for a treat when the evening comes alive with fabulous fashion flair. We’ll be live-tweeting from backstage as well as live-streaming the show online so stay tuned! Our predictions for tonight’s top awards: Best New Design: Rachel Roy (we predict!), Best Dress: Lenny Kravitz’ iconic bodysuit, Best Men’s Outfit: Jeremy Scott Spring/Summer 2016 collection. What do you think?
